Daily Mail Article from December 2004
Prince Harry's girlfriend Chelsy Davy has spoken for the first time of their relationship.
During a lengthy brunch, the couple sipped Sex on the Beach cocktails beside the Indian Ocean.
Back in Britain, questions were being asked about the exact nature of links between Miss Davy's father Charles and the Robert Mugabe regime in Zimbabwe, where he has carved out a huge estate and fortune while other white landowners have lost everything.
But on Saturday, 19-year-old Miss Davy - who first met the Prince while she was at Cheltenham College - seemed unperturbed as she broke her silence about their eight-month courtship.
The couple's romance began when the Prince visited Cape Town in April.
But the fact that they were an item emerged only after Miss Davy paid a flying visit to Argentina last month where 20-year-old Harry was working on a polo ranch.
On Friday, he joined her at her parents' luxury holiday home near Durban in South Africa. Referring to being spotted in South America, Miss Davy said: "I sort of got seen at the beginning of the trip when I arrived there, but we weren't seen again after that, ha ha ha. Harry was pretty pleased about that.
"It's very difficult for him to have any kind of normal relationship with anyone."
She is looking forward to travelling with Harry to a holiday island off the Mozambique coast and added in a brief News of the World interview: "I hope we'll be able to give everyone the slip, but I doubt we'll be able to pull it off."
Exhausting night out
Yesterday the couple were joined by four friends, including Miss Davy's brother Shaun, as they dined at Zack's cafe in Umhlanga Rocks, a trendy oceanside town popular with southern Africa's wealthy white elite.
They seemed to be recovering from an exhausting night out amid the town's many clubs and pubs. Harry ate spaghetti bolognaise with his vodka-based Sex on the Beach cocktail, while Miss Davy, in tight-fitting top and sarong, ordered a grilled vegetable salad.
Dressed in baggy shorts and surfer's T-shirt, Harry was not recognised by fellow diners during the meal. "Chelsy and Harry look just like the thousands of other couples in town at the moment," said an observer. "No one seems to recognise him. Harry seems very relaxed."
The six are staying at a tenth-floor apartment owned by Miss Davy's father which overlooks Umhlanga's beach. It has satellite TV, en-suite bathrooms and tight security, offering both luxury and privacy.
On Saturday, however, Harry and bikini-clad Miss Davy were pictured embracing on a sun lounger on the balcony.
Miss Davy's father, who runs a safari company, owns vast swathes of land in southern Zimbabwe.
